Changes Ahead

Pierce Transit is redesigning its service, and may be facing significant reductions. We want your input as we move forward. Last fall, communities informed us that transit’s first priority is to connect people to jobs and to basic life needs. In the spring we presented three conceptual plans based on available funding that reflected those values.

Today, we have two alternatives based on feedback in fall 2009 and spring 2010.

  • 40 Weekday Routes, 26 Weekend Routes, 353,000 Service Hours
  • 0.6% Local sales tax (6¢ on a $10.00 purchase)
  • Assumes significant service reductions required by 2012
  • Concept is financially sustainable; constrained at current funding levels of 0.6% sales tax
  • Focus is to provide service across the entire service area
  • The result is a system with reductions in frequency, span of service, and reduced weekend access.
  • 48 Weekday Routes, 34 Weekend Routes, 654,000 Service Hours
  • 0.9% Local sales tax (9¢ on a $10.00 purchase)
  • Concept based on community values of economic development and social services
  • Objective is to serve centers with high population and employment promoting economic development through frequent, more direct routes
  • Assumes new funding, equal to full taxing authority – 0.9%

We invite you to give input on these plans, to share your concerns, and to help design the system of tomorrow. The concept maps show Pierce Transit service at three different levels. They were created with the goal of providing the best service to the most people. PT’s board will be reviewing these plans this spring. We want your input.
